Local Councils and Water Tanks

Isn’t it amazing how local Councils have changed  their minds about water tanks for homes..just over the last month I have met 2 people who do not know one another, live in different Council areas who just a couple of years ago requested permission to install their own water tanks but were refused permittion by their Council, how things have changed, both parties have jacked up now and both have said …No I wasn’t allowed when I wanted one…..Councils should listen to the people they are representing more often.

Sounds a bit like cutting your nose to spite your face. Okay, so they were ahead of their time when first wanting to install the tanks - but that is no reason to spit the dummy now and snub the chance to install now.

Actually I was talking to someone who works in the water dept, unblocking pipes, he said if everyone gets water tanks there is going to be major problems in all the pipes in the future, because that water that people now call grey water is really needed to keep all the pipes clear and flowing, he said flush water is no near enough to keep the pipes clear……I myself would like a tank but out of my price range I’m afraid.

I am installing 44 gallon drums under my downpipes, with taps in them and flexible downpipes so that when the drums are full I can reinstate the pipes to the drainage system.
Meanwhile it will give me all the water I need for garden etc
Yes, the drainage system does need a certain amount of water running through it to prevent the pipes drying out and becoming brittle.
The only trouble with tanks, drums etc is you must have rain to get some water in em.

hmmm it is all a big problem isn’t it, it is even a bit scary when you think about it, we have taken our water for granted in the past I think, this could be a big wakeup for us all.

I think it is about time the council let us have tanks - but beware, I predict it will be only a matter of time before they start charging us catchment fees for the water we have in our tanks.

They do allow you now to have tanks, but I still feel like a lot of others their ruling some years ago of not letting the people have one when they wanted one made no sense if ordinary people could see the need the Council should have seen it after all that is their job to look for the future, we are depending on them for that….

Well I think we need to have some authority in the local areas maybe if there is an alternative you can suggest, could be interesting.
